Welsh Artist and Taxidermist currently working and living in
I Have been practisingTaxidermy for the last 10 years.
I always put more of my efforts into the fine art side of my work until graduating from the Royal Academy schools' MFA Fine art programme in 2012. This gave me more time to take the plunge and really concentrate on starting my vision of a modern Taxidermy business. I lost all of the photographs of my early work but a the past 3 or so years can be seen here.
I fell in love with Taxidermy after spending a lot of my childhood in Cardiff museum and a life long obsession with animals.
I do not see the taxidermy I do as a part of my art practice despite a lot of my mounts falling into non-traditional categories of taxidermy. I always endeavour to keep the two things separate to ensure the animal's character is the main focus and not just a material in an artwork.
For me each animal has its own personality and this is always something I try and bring into the finished piece. I work with a lot of damaged animals that have injuries instead of letting them go to waste. When I get a good specimen with repairable damage I usually stick more to traditional mounts.
I've been a vegetarian for over a decade and have huge respect for all species, therefore no animals were killed to produce anything you see on this website.
I get the animals from an array of places. My main sources being friends, roadkill, pest controllers, pet shops, and groundskeepers and I also welcome donations.
Every animal is ethically sourced.
I don't even kill spiders.
(but I do let my cats eat them.)
