Plinth inspired by the homemade display cases/ faux fridges seen outside many houses in the middle of nowhere in Sumatra to sell cigarettes and cans of coke.
AVAILABLE WITH OR WITHOUT PLINTH.
Plinth opens at the front for storage of all your expedition equipment.
PROCESS:
First I use an oil base clay to sculpt the figure. Then I coat the sculpture in 3 layers of silicone followed by a plaster bandage layer for strength. I remove the clay from the mould by making a small incision and then I clean the mould.
Next I carefully vaseline the eyes into position and slowly close the mould and add the plaster bandage. Sculptures with photographs inside have the images sealed with varnished and inserted inside the mould. The mould is then rested feet to the sky ready for resin. I measure the resin needed in grams.I then divide that by 24 and pour into 24 disposable cups and mix with dirt scraped from foot casts and footprints on the Jungle ground in Sumatra. The middle sections are mixed with a hair sample and or saliva sample from Kitan fruit collected with tweezers and stored in alcohol to stop degradation. I then pour one layer every 25 minutes exactly so that the layers gel perfectly and the resin doesn't yellow or get cloudy. 24 hours after the last pour I de-mould and then polish the sculptures and varnish them to produce glass like clarity. This one then had mohair laid strands at a time onto the surface.
